Donate to Extreme Poverty
Living below the extreme poverty line means a household is unable to afford their most basic needs of food, shelter, healthcare/sanitation, and education. USD 1,000 is about one year’s expenditure for the average impoverished household in the countries where we work. There is nothing magical about this amount – it reflects existing evidence on the effectiveness of large transfers and roughly the amount the average family in poverty would need to invest to raise their income above that extreme poverty level.
If you lost everything, would you want a stranger to guess what you needed most? Or would you rather choose for yourself?
When disasters strike, individuals have their emergencies. Whether it’s losing their home, being unable to get to work and pay the bills, or needing to purchase medicine, each person has their own unique challenges. These needs are difficult to predict. Yet donors still send canned goods and used clothes, deciding what the recipient needs most.
Wouldn’t you rather choose for yourself?
Imagine instead of getting a pile of used clothes you were given $1,500 no strings attached. What would you spend it on? Fixing your car, buying a generator, or replacing your fridge? Cash recognizes that everyone has unique emergencies and it is unrealistic to expect aid organizations to predict the wide array of complex needs that arise. Instead, cash allows recipients to prioritize and solve their challenges.
Will you be responding to future disasters?
That’s our goal. We’re currently building both operational and fundraising capabilities around a range of humanitarian scenarios, including natural disasters, conflict, and refugee responses. Our decision on whether to deploy for a given disaster depends on the severity of the disaster, the number of low-income households impacted, and our ability to fundraise for relief efforts.
Your money helps them recover from climate disasters.
Digital cash transfers reach families quickly and let them meet their own changing needs in a disaster – as opposed to receiving pre-determined aid or donated goods they are forced to sell or leave behind.
Giving survivors cash directly and unconditionally allows them to both meet their short-term needs (e.g. food, water, and medical needs) and rebuild their homes and businesses in the long term. Giving cash directly has delivered rapid-response cash to the poor and helpless people of the society and different countries.

If you think about it, doesn’t giving directly make sense?
Cash allows individuals to invest in what they need, instead of relying on aid organizations and donors thousands of miles away to choose for them. Isn’t this what you would prefer?

Together, we can end extreme poverty in our lifetimes.
Today, 690 million people are living on less than $2.15/day, and donation transfers are a proven way to accelerate their escape from poverty. By delivering your donations and studying the impact, we aim to demonstrate a path to ending extreme poverty.
